Using mixed image aspect ratios in a Baselight project (tested on version 5.3.17219) incorrect canvas and image aspect ratios are written to Dolby Vision IMF and Dolby Vision Mezzanine MXF files when using L5 masks.

Due to a bug, the L5 value is ignored when adding the image aspect ratio to the Dolby Vision IMF and Dolby Vision Mezzanine files - instead of the most prevalent mask value in the scene being used as the image aspect ratio, the same value as the canvas setting is used. L5 Metadata is still created for every shot but the image aspect ratio will be incorrect.
 

Until fixed by Filmlight, we recommend the following:
 

1. Export a Dolby Vision XML

1. Set the cursor mask to the most common image mask (eg 2.0) as this will set the image aspect ratio in the Dolby Vision XML to the most common mask in the scene.
   1. The L5 metadata for other shots will be correctly added to the XML if set inside the Dolby Vision Analysis layer

 

2. Export an HDR tiff sequence

1. In the render menu, set the Render Format to match the Viewing format which is usually UltraHD 3840x2160 for all Dolby Vision Home deliveries
2. Set the Mask to L5 as this will add the correct blanking to every image during the image output

 

3. Master the Dolby Vision IMF using a third party mastering tool

1. Import the HDR image sequence
2. Import the Dolby Vision Metadata exported from Baselight
3. Render a Dolby Vision IMF
