BeatVince (Customer) asked a question.

In Nuendo (on a PC), does one need to get the Dolby Mastering Suite in order to render out a binaural wav file (BIN). I use the Ambisonics 3rd order with an IMMERSE profile to decode the 7.1.4 to stereo. I am concerned that this decoder sounds different?
Sorry if this answer is somewhere obvious (which it probably is), but I have looked through the Dobly Atmos rendere guide manual pg240 and didn't get the answer I was looking for...

    Hi, Yes, the binaural renderer in the Production Suite or Mastering Suite is different. You wouldn't necessarily need to master the content with the Mastering Suite but you would need either the Production Suite running on a Mac or Mastering Suite on a PC to import a master and export a binaural render. The Atmos Conversion Tool (free) could be used to convert the ADM .wav from Nuendo to a .atmos file which could opened in either the Production Suite or Mastering Suite and then auditioned as a binaural render with distance models auditioned and tweaked as needed. If you have a Mac capable of running the Production Suite that would be the least expensive way to go.

      Thank you for your answer. I have a follow up;

      I bounced out an ADM file in Nuendo (PC), imported it into Dolby Atmos Renderer (on my mac) in order to render out a BIN file. The problem is that I only have three render options (cmd+E); 7.1, 5.1, and 2.0. Do you know why I am not getting the 4th binaural stereo option?

      Also, do you know if Nuendo/Dolby plans to integrate the binaural renderer so one can monitor atmos mixes on headphones without going through the amibisonics decoder.

    The Monitoring dropdown is for the speaker outputs. If you go to Preferences/Headphone (CMD+,) you can turn on headphone processing and select the Render mode as either stereo or Binaural.

    The headphone output will use the physical outputs set up in the Room Setup window (CMD+M) Routing tab. Alternatively you can enable "Headphone Only" mode in Preferences/Driver and set the physical outputs to use on that page. Headphone only mode will disable the speaker outputs.

    I can't comment on the development plans of Dolby or our licensees/partners but I think it is safe to assume both parties are aware of the current limitation and that this isn't ideal. Keep in mind that the Dolby Atmos Binaural Render will apply the distance model settings that can be authored in Nuendo but that a 3rd party Ambisonics decoder will not.

      Hi again @[AdamP]

      I had another question. I'm thinking of getting the Mastering Suite for my PC, but before I do, would I be able to binaurally mix in realtime using Nuendo and routing the output externally to Dolby's Mastering Suite. THen in there setting it up with a binaural downmix? I really need to be able to monitor binaurally in order to make good decisions in my mix's/masters in Nuendo.
