Is Microsoft's "Movie and TV" the only app that can decode Atmos metadata?

This post is truly shocking. It was stated that only the "Movie and TV" media player could decode Atmos metadata. I've tried Potplayer, VLC, MPC-HC, and Kodi players to verify the authenticity of this, but none of them reproduce the atmos sound. They all strip the atmos metadata and play back with only 5.1 or 7.1 cores. Only Movie and TV could clearly express the sound corresponding to the bad channel and the object channel. The problem is that Movie and TV does not support decoding of the TrueHD codec. So there is no way to watch TrueHD bitstream content containing Dolby Atmos :(

PotPlayer, VLC MPC-HC and Kodi are open source players which do not offer Dolby licensed decoders. That might be the reason why it does not support Dolby Atmos decoding. That is why they simply decode maximum what they are able to like 7.1 or 5.1.

TrueHD is dedicated for BluRay use case, and Movie and TV if it is dedicated for file base or streaming playback which does not include BlueRay, so Dolby TrueHD decoder might be not integrated there.
    • Thanks for the clear answer. Are there any media players other than "Movie and TV" that have a decoder with a Dolby license?

In VLC player there's an option for HDMI/SPDIF audio pass through. Please try it.
