Paul Theodorou (Howard Audio) asked a question.
Receiving ADM files that are "Read Only" from Nuendo 12
A colleague of mine has supplied me with an album of ADMs he has mixed in Atmos in Nuendo 12 using the "built in dolby renderer" . I then QC these ADMs by pulling in these master files into the stand alone Dolby renderer. From here I usually make changes to the binaural settings within the renderer, however the ADMs or master files supplied are locked. i.e Read only. This is the first time it has happened.
I am unable to unlock them in the top right corner of the Dolby Renderer to make any binaural settings changes. We have gone through all the settings on the Nuendo 12 side of things and cannot find a setting relating to "read only" or "locked" upon export.
What is even more confusing is that in the past, I have received ADMs from him that were locked but could be unlocked for me to make binaural settings changes for our final delivery.
So a few questions here.
1. Has anybody experienced this and know how to prevent an ADM being exported as read only on the Nuendo 12 side of things?
2. If these files are truly read only, is there any way of unlocking the master file within the Dolby renderer other than the traditional unlock feature at the top right corner of the Dolby renderer?
3. Why would some ADMs be supplied to me as "locked" and others as "unlocked" from the identical setup in Nuendo 12?
Any advise would be appreciated thank you.

Metadata updates can only be made to a DAMF master file. ADM master files will always be locked in the Renderer. You can use the free Dolby Atmos Conversion Tool (https://customer.dolby.com/content-creation-and-delivery/dolby-atmos-conversion-tool-v200) to conver the master file to a DAMF and perform metadata updates in the Renderer.

Thank you very much for the information. I have just tested this by converting the ADMs in the conversion tool to DAMF files and can now unlock the masters to make changes.
I will use this process going forward.
My only question would be:
How is it possible that I have received ADMs that were unlocked before? or ADMs that were locked and could be unlocked?
Not sure how that would be possible if ADMs should always be locked.
Very interesting.
Thanks again
I am not sure how you were able to edit ADMs in the past. Maybe you were editing the Input instead of the Master in the Renderer? If you are able to reproduce the behavior i would be interested to see the file and how it is done.
