Washington (Customer) asked a question.

How to change from Lo/Ro to Direct Render?
I need to change to Direct Render because the label's rejecting it in Lo/Ro. I checked the Renderer guide and it said the setting is under Processing but I don't have that option in version I have.

    Hi There,

The downmix setting can be changed in the Trim and Downmix Controls window (Window > Trims and Downmix or Command + T).

      Thank you Bennett!

Just to be clear, all I have to do is press the unlock button between "5.1 downmix in master" and "5.1 downmix monitoring/re-renders" and change it to Direct Render in the 5.1 downmix monitoring/re-renders tab and press Accept?

Also, would I have to re-print the mix from Pro Tools again or just create an ADM WAV of the existing .atmos file?

    Hi,

You will want to change the 5.1 downmix settings for the master file (which may need to be unlocked in the upper right corner of the main window). You don't need to re-print the mix, you can just change the master downmix settings and re-export the ADM.

Unfortunately I exceed -18 integrated by almost 2db by changing just the existing .atmos file.

But now I'm also having an issue where the integrated loudness shows -18 when played through Pro Tools, but when I check the loudness analysis of the .atmos file via the Renderer, it shows -17.4.

      I'm confused.

Here the link to the UMG Atmos requirements.

They also want the Trim controls set to manual and the Surround & Height brought up to 0db.

Atmos loudness is based on a 5.1 re-render, so changing the 5.1 downmix settings can have an effect on the loudness measurement.

In regards to the difference between master and input, can you verify that the input and master downmix settings match? There are buttons at the bottom of the Trim and Downmix controls window that allow you to copy settings from master to input and vice versa.

If you are delivering to UMG, you should verify that all of your settings in the trim and downmix controls window match their delivery spec. These can be changed after a master file has been recorded, but it is easier to set them before creating a master file. With the upcoming release of Renderer v5.0 these settings will persist across sessions.

The only settings I have at the bottom of Trim and Downmix controls are the trim controls. To the right of "5.1 downmix in master" I have "5.1 downmix monitoring/re-renders" with a dropdown menu. If I set both to Direct Render, the integrated loudness, true peak, etc, I see on the input should match the master, correct?

Luckily, setting the trim controls to 0db is optional. They suggest to check the 5.1 re-render, which I did, and the surround channels were way too loud. Setting it to Automatic matched the balance of the full Atmos mix perfectly.

What version of the Renderer are you using? See attached photo for the buttons I am referring to.

If the input and master trim and downmix controls match, then the live loudness measurement should match the master offline loudness measurement, as long as you haven't changed the mix in any way.

Sorry Bennett for the late reply. I had to switch over to a stereo project for a little while, but I am back to Atmos this week.

I just upgraded to the latest Renderer version, 5.0.0. I was on 3.7.3.

And it appears that I will not need to copy settings from master to input or vise versa because the loudness measurement of a couple of test masters I created today were matching the input loudness automatically.

By the way, I really like the new look of the Renderer. The contrast and color adjustments are nice. I also like how everything is reorganized in the menu bar.

But, has the binaural processing changed sonically in any way? It sounds a little more subtle, maybe? Could be me, could be the songs. I don't know yet. I did double check that it was working, by setting a soloed hi hat to Far, and I could clearly hear the added ambiance. But when playing the full mix it seemed to be a little less noticeable than normal.

        Anyway, thanks for the help!

Glad to hear things are working out. Appreciate the positive feedback in regards to the UI.

The binaural processing has not changed with 5.0.
