More Speakers with new Renderer and Nuendo?
Hello,

I noticed that the new renderer has more speaker output options than the limited 7.1.4 in Nuendo/Cubase. Can I access these additional speakers when mixing in Nuendo and the new renderer?

    Hi,

The Dolby Atmos Renderer has always had the ability to output more than 7.1.4 and also has array support for larger rooms. Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase are currently restricted to 7.1.4 speakers. I can't speculate on their development plans.

    • Thanks. So if i were to mix with Nuendo, the dolby renderer could play back my Nuendo project using the other speaker outputs? Like a 9.1.8 setup for instance?

    Hi,

Yes. See the attached screen grabs for the max available speaker layout. The default is 7.1.4 but you can add many more. If using .8 either the front or rear heights would be added.

  • Ok great! Sorry for all of the questions...

So basically, If i have nuendo/cubase already, all I would need to expand to large setup like the max 11.1.10 layout, I would just need to purchase the $299 renderer and route everything accordingly?

    Hi,

Well it depends. If Nuendo is running on a Mac you can use the Dolby Audio Bridge to connect to the Renderer and use any core audio device for the speaker outputs. If the Mac is running on Apple silicon (M1, M2 etc) then Nuendo needs to run in Rosetta mode in order to connect to an external Renderer. If Nuendo is running on a PC you need to run the Renderer on another PC or Mac can with Dante or MADI I/O. So it really depends on what your setup is now and/or what you are willing to do to make it work.

And Cubase would need to use the Dolby Atmos Music Panner Plug-in to connect with the Rendere as well as it otherwise doesn't have the abillity to communicate with the Renderer.
