'The master file you are attempting to open contains invalid data'
I've been working for some time in Logic, and exporting ADM's without problem. All of the sudden I'm getting 'The master file you are attempting to open contains invalid data.' when I try to open an ADM generated by Logic. ...it's a specific project, not all projects....any ideas?

  • Problem solved with help from Bennett at Dolby. I had an track that started as a stereo track in the bed - put Microshift on it. I changed it to mono, and made it an object. Worked fine in logic, but upon export it created problems for anything Dolby trying to open it (Renderer and/or Assembler). Deleted the plugin, exported, all worked fine. Put the plugin back in, all still fine. Thanks Bennett!

    Hi There,

Sorry you are running into issues. Can you provide some more information on your workflow:

-What are you trying to open the ADM files in?
-Is anything different/unique about this project? What are the specifics of the project/export?
-Does this happen on every export from the project? What if you export a shorter section of the project?
-Can you try downloading the Dolby Atmos Conversion Tool to see if that can open it:
    https://customer.dolby.com/content-creation-and-delivery/dolby-atmos-conversion-tool-v210
-Can you post a link to the ADM via a filesharing service (box, dropbox, etc)?

    • sorry - didn't see your whole post ...

Yes, it happens on every export from the project..

I'll download the conversion tool tomorrow and try it...

Will post a link (would rather do it privately) if that would help.

      Thanks!

  • Trying to open in either the Renderer or Album Assembler. I really can't think of anything unique about the project....but I did work on it for quite a while before exporting an ADM, and trying to open in the dolby products. The Assembler gave a different error - I don't have it here but something about length and dbmchunk or similar...

  • Hi, I have this problem too - with ADM's exported from Logic at the beginning March, and checked using the 3.7.3 version of the renderer, now I try to open them in Dolby Renderer 5 and I have the 'The master file you are attempting to open contains invalid data.' message. I have tried opening them in the conversion tool and I get 'The master was not imported. Invalid ADM: mismatch between number of channels read and 'dbmd'chunk'.

I will start a new post and hope that someone can help me - I'm on a deadline to deliver these!
  • Having the same problem, also on a deadline. Incredibly frustrating. Wish I could at least access the previous version the renderer so I could deliver my project. At a complete loss.

      Hi,

Sorry you are running into this issue. What version of logic are you using? Logic said they had fixed this error with the latest release.

Also, see the post above where the export issue was fixed by a mono/stereo object mismatch in Logic.

If you need an ADM that will work ASAP, I can send you a download link to an older version of the Dolby Atmos Conversion Tool that you can use to 'sanitize' the ADM.

Note that this is not an issue with the Renderer application, the issue is with Logic writing corrupt ADMs. The newer version of the Renderer has stricter import checks that match those in the downstream encoders.

  • Hi, Bennett from Dolby support was very helpful with this. Logic was incorrectly dealing with the metadata, but it was meant to be fixed in 10.7.8. I haven’t tested it though. My solution was to open the ADMs in Dolby Atmos Conversion tool - the previous version 2.0.0 - and then save the ADM. Then it works fine..
