PANNER with DARenderer, Center %, Side % disabled when dealing with object
Wondering why those 2 parameters Center% and Side% are disabled when dealing with objects, it would be interesting to be able to activate them. Size parameter can offer another solution but not as precise as center divergence that deals with L, C, R channels only. Any idea of development on this subject for futur releases ?

    Hi,

If you are using Pro Tools you can utilize the Zone Selector in the object panner. Refer to the Pro Tools documentation for more specific information.

The brief answer to your question is that the nature of object rendering (specific resolution of x/y/z coordinates) would be diminished if you are also routing an object to specific speaker locations. If you want to address center and side speakers outside of the placement/panning of an object, you may just want to use a bed for that element, and reserve objects for things that require precise placement in the space.

  • Well, I understand but if I want to declare a voice as an object to manage it better in the binaural monitoring like with no HRTF to keep it as direct sound, inside the head, and still want to put the voice on the loudspeakers 7.1.4 monitoring as frontal using center % with more phantom L-R image than Center, it is impossible with the Zone Selector/Size parameters if I'm correct. Voices are tricky to manage in the binaural monitoring, and it is nice to declare them as objects. Same idea with Side %.

If you want a phantom center with a stereo object, you can place it in LR in equal amounts and that will create a phantom center image. Turning binaural metadata settings off is not recommended, as this bypasses the binauaral renderer entirely and gets downmixed to stereo.
