Tone mapping from imported XML is too dark
Hello,
We are starting the deliveries of a TV series that's graded in P3 D65 PQ (1000nits) with ACEScct 1.3. The delivery specifications mentions a REC2020 PQ TIF sequence with the Dolby Vision XML.
We used DaVinci Resolve 18 as our grading software. After the grading we have exported the P3 PQ master and a tone mapped SDR master (REC709 gamma 2.4). Both are confirmed by the colorist to look correct. These are just Quicktime files.
Afterwards I have changed the output colour space to REC2020 PQ (1000 nits, P3D65 limited) and exported the TIF sequence. Now I want to compare these three files to make sure my TIF sequence is correct and I can make all my other deliveries from that export.
When I compare the HDR files, they almost look correct. There is a minor change in the red channel, this is because I change the output colour space to REC2020. If I am correct this should not cause any shifts in colour? Is there another way to export the REC2020 master?
My major concern happens when I compare the SDR. I imported the TIF sequence, I loaded the XML and enabled tone mapping preview. But the image appears a darker than my SDR export. On the scopes I only see values up until 2/3th of the top. Whereas my SDR export uses the full scopes.
I've tried data levels, color management (aces - colour managed - non colour managed), other tags on export, ...
I attached screenshots of my two project settings, one of the grading project and one of the QC project. And the difference between tone map and SDR. I also added two screenshots of the XML.
Kind regards,
Robin

Further, I would not recommend using a predefined color processing mode and set the color management describes as per the link above. Further, you are changing the mastering display settings which you should not.
