Renderer direct ouput to HDMI
Hi,
I have extron ssp200 which can do 7.1 distribution to the allocated Amp,
This is our university client and they will be using Protools.
normally HDMI will not carry more the 2ch via HDMI within a MAC.(unless you have another software)
I have route the source to Renderer from protool and i could select the HDMI within the preference output setting which will go to Extron ssp200,
Simply I’m doing playback using HDMI.
In this case, does HDMI will carry the Dobly signal and be detected by ssp as well as decode the source?

If MacOS sees the Extron as an 8 ch core audio device you should be able to route a 7.1, 5.1, or 2.0 downmix to it. I have not tested this. This will be PCM only. The Renderer does not output an encoded Atmos presentation. You will also need to ensure the downstream sink device detects and accepts the HDMI EDID for 8ch PCM. In short I don't think this signal flow will produce the desired result. There is no way to get 7.1.4 from the Renderer over HDMI. The MP4 export feature is intended to provide files that can be played back on other devices ie. airplayed to an AppleTV 4K.
The only way to get 7.1.4 over HDMI from a Mac is to use a Mac running Apple Silicon and Monterey OS or later and set the speaker configuration in AudioMIDI setup to 7.1.4. Streaming content on Apple Music or via Safari can be played back this way.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Adam
