Dolby Renderer Upgrade 5.1 Won't Display All Objects in Objects View
Though the Input Status Indicators illuminate, not all the objects appear in the Objects View window. I can hear all the objects but not all are graphically displayed.
In addition, in the Room Configuration window, it only shows left and right. In Headphones Only mode with binaural monitoring active, shouldn't the 7.1.4 configuration be displayed.
I don't know if these issues are bugs with this upgrade. By the way, I'm using Logic Pro (v10.7.9) with the Dolby Audio Bridge routed to the Renderer on the same machine.
As always, many thanks for your help!
Marc

  • There's definitely a bug in DAR version 5.1 regarding this issue. The Dolby Atmos Music Panner does not recall the network address when you reopen the Logic Pro file. You have to reset it once and all the other Music Panners in the session will switch to the correct address. DAR sees the objects in the Input Status section but it's not sending the metadata of the objects. DAR 5.0 did not have this problem. It always recalled the original network address when you reopened the file/session in Logic Pro.

    Hi Marc,

Headphone only mode will only display the binaural output meters. This is expected. Sorry you are running into issues. If the Music Panner isn't sending metadata can you verify that each the Object Pair is reset in each instance of the Music Panner as well as the address. Are you using localhost as the address? I'm not able to replicate this with a test project in 10.7.9 using Renderer v5.1 . Are you able to share a project that exhibits this behavior just using a tone generator?

    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Hi Adam

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

It appears these anomalies and others are growing by the day. I'll give you some examples below. By the way, I did create a new Logic session and the same network address was recalled when I reopened it. But another problem popped up in this same session where the Music Panner did not display the Object numbers located at the bottom of the plugin. This normally causes metadata problems. See attached (No Object Numbers).

In another Logic session, Object 60 will not play back. Although it's assigned in the Music Panner, shows up in the Dolby Renderer (but in the wrong place) and can be heard, Object 60 doesn't show up on the Logic channel or the Music Panner display. See attached (No Object 60 Output). But if I remove the Music Panner plugin, it reappears on the channel and can be heard.

In this same session, the Music Panner on the bass channel won't let me select Output 39 because it's greyed out. I double-checked to make sure there was no duplicate output. Curiously, it still appears and can be heard in the Dolby Renderer though not at the right location. See attached (Cant Select Object 39).

Again, in the same session, automation written for Object 29 won't playback in the Renderer. I can see it move in the Music Panner but it doesn't move in the Renderer. Although I do hear it at a stationary location.
Adam, you don't need to respond to each example because I believe this is a systemic issue. For each problem I resolve, 2 or 3 pop up. At this point, Atmos is virtually useless. It got significantly worse after I upgraded to 5.1 and spent $300 for DAR I might add. Maybe I need to remove DAR 5.0? I'm using the latest version of Logic 10.7.9.

Also, I've checked my system resources. I don't get System Overload notices in Logic and the CPU usage is between 10 to 15% during playback in the Renderer. The biggest session I have is only about 30 channels including the beds.

So, I'm frustrated and disheartened. Perhaps you can escalate this issue so hopefully we can get it resolved. Otherwise, I can't use DAR anymore.

Let me know and thanks for any assistance.

    Marc

PS: I'll post the other screenshots below.

    Hi Marc,

For panner assignments that are unavailable it may mean that another project is still using an assignment. I suggest opening up the Remote Clients window in the Renderer to see what is connected. This is available from the setup menu or Option/Shift/T.

I'm not sure what is causing some of the other issues. Can you try to connect to the Renderer from the Music Panner as localhost instead of the computer name? If you cycle through any of the stereo link modes does that alter anything? Also can you verify the music panner version by clicking on Dolby Atmos Music Panner in the plug-in as pictured.

If there is still no resolution I'd like to see the Renderer logs (accessible from the help menu) if you can zip those up.

Was this all working as expected before? Were you already on Renderer v5.1 when you updated to Logic 10.7.9? Or, were you on Logic 10.7.9 and then upgraded the Renderer. Understanding when these issues appeared might help figure what has sparked these issues.

    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Hi Adam

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I believe these issues are related to the available addresses seen in the Music Panner. Prior to the 5.1 upgrade, only "localhost" was available as an active address. After the DAR upgrade, it shows "localhost" and "Mini-Pro.local" which is the computer name. Also, I was using Logic Pro v 10.7.9 prior to the DAR 5.1 upgrade. Plus, Logic and DAR operate on the same computer.

When I was using DAR 5.0, I didn't experience any significant issues when operating on the "localhost" address. But ever since the 5.1 upgrade on the "Mini-Pro.local" address, many problems have occurred. Should I just use the "localhost" address? I've attached a screenshot.

Let me know and in the meantime I'll send you the DAR logs as requested.

    Thanks again,
    Marc

    Hi Marc,

Yes please, try localhost. Thanks for the clarification. I was able to repro the mono audio issue with the stereo plug-in but not the Object numbers blank in the plug-in. If you have a simple project that consistently causes this, can you share it?

    Thanks
    Adam
    • Hi Adam

I've attached the DAR logs zip file. Below I've also attached a screenshot of the Music Panner version. I'll try the localhost address and see if DAR behaves. If it doesn't, I'll try to send you the project.

      Many thanks
      Marc
