Rhythmmik (ALPWW) asked a question.

Problem with busses while importing ADM with multiple beds.
I need to re-assemble a bunch of ADMs that were created from a live recording. Each song was bounced as it's own ADM, but now I need to create one ADM containing all the songs. I found a great resource for instructions on this process:https://dolby.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/... but the ADMs I'm importing have two 7.1.2 beds. And even though the beds are created in the I/O busses and outputs within ProTools and the inputs are created and bed assignments happen in Renderer, I get an error message when I open the I/O in ProTools that says it can't connect my second bed to renderer and tells me to open the input config in renderer and make sure they match. Which they do. But everytime I try and make the mapping in the bus I/O tab it says the inputs don't exist in renderer. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution? I'm on the latest version of PT Ultimate(2023.6.0) and Renderer(5.1). Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

Are you consolidating your track after importing each ADM BWF ie. copying w/automation each ADM onto existing track so that the beds share tracks? Note also that mapping beds to the Renderer is only needed for bouncing a mix to ADM from Pro Tools. If you are using the Dolby Atmos Renderer the beds need to be bussed to the output but do not need to be mapped to the Renderer as there is no panning metadata as there is with objects.

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

I wasn't copying to the existing track. My process was to import the next ADM to new tracks and then I was selecting the new clips and Ctrl+dragging them to the existing tracks. Then I was using Command+Option+/ to “Write to all Enabled” with a selection across all tracks at the new clip's endpoint.

That is a better idea. If the ADM BWF files use the same input correction you can also open one in the Renderer and pull the input configuration to Pro Tools from the I/O setup bus page selecting the Use Dolby Atmos Renderer (mono) as the Default selection in the lower left. I would suggest doing this from a new session prior to importing ADMs as session data. Also to clarify. The beds don't need to be mapped to the Renderer if using the Renderer to record the new master but do need to be for bouncing to ADM BWF from Pro Tools and also for re-renders from Pro Tools.

Okay, thanks Adam. I'll try this and report back.

Success! I think the key was starting with a blank session, removing all busses and outputs, then opening one of my ADMs in the renderer and then going back to the I/O setup in ProTools and restoring from session. At this point, I was able to map all of the busses to the renderer and import my ADMs as session data. Thanks for your help!
