What is the default bit depth for Atmos as found on a Bluray Disc?
I was under the impression that Atmos would always have a bit depth of 24bit, is that not true?
I recently ripped a movie to my harddrive & after demuxing & converting the Atmos file back to 8 wav channels the individual channels displayed various bit depths from 16 to 22 bit.
I was always under the impression that Atmos was/is 24 bit.
Is that not true?

    Dolby Atmos master files are 24bit. Dolby TrueHD allows fewer bits to be assigned for commonly occurring values within the data stream for a more efficient coding process using Huffman (entropy) coding.

    Doesn't that process aid in defeating the reason for keeping bit depth rates at 24?

    the higher the bit depth the better quality the audio file will be?
