I am learning Atoms technology on this website.
Is the tutorial on this website correct? Does the tutorials represent the official Dolby company?

  • Thank you for your answer. But I have one more question.
This tutorial points out:"Spatial coding is employed to reduce 128 bed and object channels to 12 or 16 elements or “clusters”. Actually, this is really 11.1 or 15.1 as the LFE doesn’t move."
"the 12 elements is really 11.1",Can it be understood mapped as['L', 'R', 'C', 'LFE', 'Ls', 'Rs', 'Lrs', 'Rrs', 'Ltf', 'Rtf', 'Ltr', 'Rtr']CHANNELS?
    Is this understanding correct?
  • MichalM (Dolby)

Dolby Atmos is object based audio. Decoder, depending on the speaker layout, prepare an output to fit desired configuration. Content should sound the same no matter what speaker layout you use. Talking about Dolby Atmos you should not be very focused on channel based configuration.

If for example Dolby TrueHD is encoded using 12 elements, it does not mean you can not play it on 9.1.6 configuration. This are just elements of which encoded content consist, and based on those decoding process is performed.
    • I know that the Dolby decoder can decode 12 elements and play them in the 7.1.4/7.1.6/9.1.4/……9.1.6 configuration

But if it is a mixing room creation in 7.1.4, encoding it into 12 elements and playing it with the configuration in 7.1.4 is the best match?
to put it another way, the tutorial points out that "the 12 elements are really 11.1" is an incorrect statement?
  • MichalM (Dolby)

Statement is fully correct. These are spatially coded clusters not channels.
      • 11.1 mapped to ['L', 'R', 'C', 'LFE', 'Ls', 'Rs', 'Lrs', 'Rrs', 'Ltf', 'Rtf', 'Ltr', 'Rtr']clusters?
