CM_Analyze and Max Luminance
Hi there!

I've got a client who has asked us to report a Max Luminance measurement in addition to MaxCLL and MaxFALL measurements in our HDR asset QC reporting. I believe this is a weighted luminance calculation that results in a different measurement than MaxCLL for content with chroma subsampling. The only implementation I'm currently familiar with is Colorfront's in Transkoder HDR report generation, by turning the luminance validation setting from Max RGB to Luminance.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the difference is that the Max Luminance value is derived from the constant luminance measurement equation, instead of the non-constant luminance version in Rec. ITU-R BT.2020-2, table 4.

Is there any way to achieve this weighted maximum luminance calculation with CM_Analyze, perhaps with the --analysis-tuning command? I wasn't able to find any specific guidance in the "Best Practices: How to Calculate HDR10 Metadata (MaxFALL, MaxCLL)" article.

Thank you!

Hi. CM_Analyze calculates MaxFall and MaxCLL (Max RGB). For this particular ask on calculating luminance (as weighted sum for max. brightness) on chroma subsampled sources you might want to consider a third party tool.
